Mirrored Lake on the way to Milford Sound. Today's trip was a long one! Coach left at 6:30am arrived back in Queenstown at 7:00pm. As the bird flies Milford Sound is only about 35km from Queenstown, but in order to get there by road you have to drive 4 1/2hrs each way.
Gorgeous waterfall along the way
Waterfalls cascading down the mountains
Notice the glacier at the top of the waterfall
Jim and Jenn outside the Homer Tunnel
This is the valley outside of Milford Sound. The road zig-zags on it's way down
Giant fern near the chasm
Here is the chasm, look at the beautiful colour of the water
This is the cruise boat we took in Milford Sound, Mitre Peak is in the background
One of many waterfalls that drain into Milford Sound. It's rains 25 feet per year here, making the first ten feet of the ocean fresh water. This makes it an interesting place for marine life.
New Zealand Fur Seals on the rock, they are and endangered species
To give perspective this waterfall is 3 times taller than Niagara Falls
Jenn and Alayna getting younger. The maori myth is, if you get the mist from this particular waterfall on your face you start to look younger
Bottlenose dolphins playing around the cruise
Mitre Peak and Milford Sound getting foggy on the way back
The drive back was a windy one, hugging Lake Wakitipu
Sun setting in Queenstown
The Remarkables viewed from the Queenstown Harbour
